Talamanca de Jarama was the location chosen for the AQUAHUB project progress review meeting, held on September 8. The event brought together the partners involved in this project, which focuses on the development of innovative solutions related to water quality, sustainability, and the circular economy.
The meeting combined a technical review of the project’s progress with a visit to the facilities of PYROCATALYTICA, where participants had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the experimental work the company is carrying out within the AQUAHUB project in areas such as pyrolysis, co-pyrolysis, and the valorization of various waste streams.
Review of Progress and Next Steps
During the working session, the different teams shared updates on their research activities, the results achieved to date, and the initiatives planned for the coming months.
This exchange provided an opportunity to identify synergies among the various work areas, share findings, and coordinate the upcoming phases of the project. The meeting also encouraged direct interaction among professionals from scientific, technical, and industrial backgrounds, a particularly valuable collaboration in an initiative that addresses water cycle challenges from multiple perspectives.
The common goal is to move from research towards practical solutions that can help address challenges related to water management and waste treatment.
A Visit to the Experimental Environment
Following the technical meeting, participants toured PYROCATALYTICA’s R&D plant. The company’s team presented the capabilities of its facilities for investigating the thermal transformation of various waste streams and showcased some of the equipment and materials used during experimental trials.
The visit helped bring into practice several of the topics discussed during the presentations. Attendees were able to learn how experimental tests are designed, which parameters are studied throughout the processes, and the importance of thoroughly characterizing each feedstock before proposing new applications or advancing toward scale-up stages.
A Multidisciplinary Consortium Driving the Circular Economy
The AQUAHUB project is led by AWAES, a company belonging to TEDAGUA, and includes the participation of INCRO S.A., Grupo Fertiberia, QUANTIA Ingeniería y Consultoría, PYROCATALYTICA, and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The initiative also benefits from the collaboration of IMDEA Agua, TECNALIA Research & Innovation, and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
With a planned duration of 36 months and a budget of €4.5 million, AQUAHUB has secured €2.1 million in co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project is part of the Community of Madrid’s funding program aimed at strengthening public-private collaboration in R&D&I through consortium-based strategic projects.
Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer to Meet Upcoming Milestones
The meeting held in Talamanca de Jarama helped strengthen coordination among consortium members and provided a broader perspective on the progress achieved across each work stream within a shared strategic framework.
Over the coming stages, project partners will continue with experimental activities, the exchange and analysis of results, and the preparation of the next technical milestones of the project.
